There have been six times in the Open Era when women have earned 20 or more successive victories at Wimbledon, with four different players achieving the feat.
Tennis legends Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Serena Williams and Venus Williams make up the list.
Here, we look at the six longest winning streaks at Wimbledon in the women’s singles event in the Open Era.
=3. Venus Williams – 20 matches (2000-2002)
From 2000 to 2002, Venus Williams won 20 consecutive matches at Wimbledon as she claimed the first two of her five crowns.
In the 2000 and 2001 title matches, Williams triumphed against Lindsay Davenport and Justine Henin respectively, and she reached the final again in 2002.

The American’s streak was ended at 20 wins by a 6-7(4), 3-6 defeat at the hands of her sister, Serena Williams.
=3. Serena Williams – 20 matches (2002-2004)
Between 2002 and 2004, Serena Williams won 20 matches in a row at Wimbledon as she secured the first and second of her seven singles titles.
The American downed Venus Williams in both the 2002 and 2003 championship matches at the grass-court Grand Slam, before she was a runner-up in 2004.

Williams was denied a third straight title as she was stunned 6-1, 6-4 by a 17-year-old Maria Sharapova in the 2004 Wimbledon final.

=3. Venus Williams – 20 matches (2007-2009)
Venus Williams compiled a second streak of 20 successive match victories at Wimbledon from 2007 to 2009.
In the 2007 and 2008 championship matches, Williams saw off Marion Bartoli and Serena Williams respectively to win her fourth and fifth Wimbledon titles.
History repeated itself in the 2009 final as Williams was again denied a third straight title by Serena Williams, who prevailed 7-6(3), 6-2.
=3. Serena Williams – 20 matches (2015-2018)
From 2015 to 2018, Serena Williams matched her previous best Wimbledon winning streak by collecting 20 straight match victories.
The American claimed her sixth and seventh Wimbledon titles in 2015 and 2016, when she defeated Garbine Muguruza and Angelique Kerber in the respective finals.

Williams missed the 2017 edition of Wimbledon as she was pregnant with her first child, before returning in 2018, when she was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by Kerber.
2. Steffi Graf – 21 matches (1991-1993)
Steffi Graf earned 21 straight triumphs at Wimbledon between 1991 and 1993 as she secured three successive titles.
In the finals, Graf overcame Gabriela Sabatini in 1991, Monica Seles in 1992 and Jana Novotna in 1993 to collect her third, fourth and fifth Wimbledon crowns.
The German’s 21-match winning streak at the All England Club was broken in 1994 as she fell 5-7, 6-7(5) to unseeded American Lori McNeil in a seismic first round upset.

1. Martina Navratilova – 47 matches (1982-1988)
From 1982 to 1988, Martina Navratilova won an incredible 47 consecutive matches at Wimbledon, which is by far the longest streak in the women’s singles event. She claimed a record six straight titles between 1982 and 1987 and was a runner-up in 1988.

In the finals, Navratilova defeated Chris Evert in 1982, 1984 and 1985, Andrea Jaeger in 1983, Hana Mandlikova in 1986 and Steffi Graf in 1987.
The Czech-American’s remarkable run ended when she was beaten 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 by Graf in the 1988 Wimbledon championship match.
