Jannik Sinner’s Clostebol positivity has split the world of tennis, causing many media, players and former players to intervene on the issue, one of whom is John McEnroe. The former American tennis player has spoken out on the doping case of the young Italian, later acquitted by an independent court after testing positive for the banned drug during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

During an ESPN preview of the US Open, McEnore commented on the failure to disqualify the 23-year-old Italian and, referring to the case of Simona Halep, the legendary American questioned the reason why the cases were initially perceived differently by the ITIA and supported the requests for greater consistency.
“I know tennis is tested more than almost any other sport. This news just came out. It’s certainly surprising and shocking at this point in time. Especially because it happened in March and it’s been six months and this is the first time we’ve heard about it. I don’t know how they distinguish between someone who says they didn’t know about it and someone who says the same thing and gets suspended. I think Halep said it and got suspended for 18 months, and Sinner said he did it unknowingly and didn’t get suspended. So it’s clear from the players’ point of view that they want some kind of uniformity. This is a guy who is currently No. 1 in the world. It’s surprising news for all of us,” analyzed McEnroe.
In recent days, emerged the news that the Italian tennis player tested positive for Clostebol twice in the month of March, due to contamination from contact with his physiotherapist. The 23-year-old Italian, deemed innocent by the independent court, has demonstrated his innocence, and has been punished with the subtraction of the points and prize money accumulated at the American ATP Masters 1000.
Despite the many controversies that have been fueled in recent days, I remain of the opinion that, until proven otherwise, if someone has been declared innocent, it is because they are innocent and not involved in the facts.
