Iga Swiatek in action ahead of the US Open.
With two intriguing matches on the schedule, it promises to be an entertaining tenth day at the US Open. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for both matches, as well as Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev in the men’s singles, but who will book their spot in the last four in New York?
US Open Quarterfinal Predictions
Karolina Muchova vs Beatriz Haddad Maia
Jordan: Muchova has won all her previous matches against the Brazilian. Last year’s French Open runner-up will win if she produces the same level from the previous round against Jasmine Paolini. Haddad Maia is playing her best tennis of the season and will scrap as hard as always, but the Czech is the favorite to make the semifinal.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
Ismael: Beatriz Haddad Maia is slowly but surely progressing into a player capable of big things on every surface. However, her Grand Slams results had been disappointing this year, so this run must have been a relief. I think this is where that run comes to an end though.
Muchova is back like she never left, and has progressed through a very tough draw without conceding a set. She has not been troubled by neither Osaka nor Paolini, so I don’t think Haddad Maia can produce the level needed to take the Czech down. Muchova to make the head to head 4-0.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
Ateet: Muchova was brilliant against Jasmine Paolini and is yet to drop a set. It would be hard for anyone to stop her in this form. Haddad Maia has done extremely well to reach her first US Open quarterfinals and gets stronger in long matches. Muchova leads the head-to-head 3-0 but their last match went to three sets with Muchová winning 6-4 in the third. Haddad Maia as always, will fight but I expect Muchova to win this and reach the semifinals.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
Yesh: Karolina Muchova looks in devastating form. I’m not sure anyone in the world can stand up to her right now. Maybe Swiatek or Sabalenka can beat her back off the court, but Beatriz Haddad Maia has no weapons that will throw her off her game right now.
Prediction: Muchova in 2

Iga Swiatek vs Jessica Pegula
Jordan: Swiatek has gotten better with every match, and Pegula will need a great performance to finally reach a maiden Grand Slam semifinal. But I have a feeling this could be her moment. She has played excellent tennis throughout the North American hard court season, and beat Swiatek in similar conditions in Montreal last year. The American will need to serve well, though.
Prediction: Pegula in 3
Ismael: The two women with the most WTA wins on hard courts since the start of 2023 clash in the quarterfinals. Both have breezed through their first 4 matches, not dropping a set. Despite Swiatek leading the head to head 6-3, they split their 4 encounters last year, and these courts are probably the ones where the Polish is most vulnerable.
Pegula has the game to produce the upset given the conditions and the support she will get, but it is hard to back her to do so when she has a gigantic mental hurdle in the quarterfinals stage of majors (0-6). Pegula to win a set but Swiatek to progress.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
Ateet: Maybe the biggest match of Pegula’s life! Along with the Year-End-Championships Final last year when she only won one game. This will be their 10th meeting and Swiatek leads 6-3. However, Pegula has won two of their last four matches and is in great form. Swiatek has played herself into form so it will be a fascinating battle. Pegula’s tactic will be active defense and provoking errors from Swiatek. The world No.1 will have to be patient. Pegula will give her best to reach her first Grand Slam semifinals but I see Swiatek prevailing.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
Yesh: Is Jessica Pegula finally able to reach a Slam semifinal? Her recent form would suggest she’s playing well enough to do it. Unfortunately for her, Iga Swiatek stands in the way. Swiatek is just too good, but Pegula will give her toughest battle yet. And maybe, if the crowd is on the American’s side enough, Swiatek will leave an opening.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev: US Open Quarterfinal Preview
September 03, 2024
This is the third Grand Slam encounter between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev (all coming this season) and their 13th overall. Sinner won in an impressive comeback at the Australian Open final while Medvedev surprised some tennis fans and analysts by taking Sinner out in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon. Both matches went to five sets; Medvedev brought new tactics and developed new tools to ask Sinner the questions in both matches as well. Neither player is coming into this match with a big psychological advantage over the other, but Sinner overall comes with better momentum from the North American hard […]

ATP US Open quarterfinals Sinner – Medvedev: 04.09.2024 Time TBA H2H: 5-7 Jannik Sinner has won nine straight matches. Before the US Open, Jannik won the title in Cincinnati, winning against Tiafoe in the final as we predicted. Here in New York, Jannik won his first round match against McDonald in four sets as we predicted. Sinner looked emotionally exhausted in that opening match. He was obviously affected by the recent doping news. After that, in the second round, Sinner defeated Michelsen in straight sets as we predicted. Jannik lost his serve twice in the opening set. However, he stepped […]

ATP US Open quarterfinals Draper – de Minaur: 04.09.2024 Time TBA H2H: 0-3 Jack Draper has won four of his last five matches. In his opening match here in New York, Zhang retired mid-match against Draper. Jack was 2–0 sets up, and 4-0 up in the third set, when Zhang decided to retire. After that, in the second round, Draper defeated Diaz Acosta in straight sets as we predicted. Facundo had no chance against Jack, who said that he was enjoying his time in New York. His serve was just unstoppable throughout the whole match, not losing his serve once. […]
