In 2019, WWE fans were witness to an incredible romantic storyline in the making with Otis and former WWE superstar Mandy Rose at the center. Fans were immediately invested in the on-screen romance between the two, which the rival couple Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville wanted to destroy. This set the stage for an epic moment in WrestleMania 36, when Otis defeated Ziggler and was rewarded with a kiss by Mandy Rose.
However, despite showing a lot of potential, the storyline was soon dropped by the creative team, much to the disappointment of the fans. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet for INSIGHT, Otis opened up about the short lived romance with Many Rose and revealed that it was she who fanned the spark of their storyline.
Mandy Rose pitched the idea of her romance with Otis
In the interview, Otis revealed, “She was definitely the ignition, for sure. Because you can pitch it all day long. But again, like with Mandy, she’s like, ‘I’ll talk to Vince [McMahon].’ Like, okay. Because I was just kidding around, I would see a bikini post on her IG, and I would be like, ‘You look good, babe!’ And then it became this thing, and last year on Google, it said, ‘Is Otis married [to Mandy Rose]?’ It was just one post. And I’m sitting there going, ‘Oh, I can get some more leverage here.’ So I kept posting it just for laughs. And she’s awesome.”
He further added, “The girls, they’re a blessing too. Because again, they’re like, it’s HR, but we know you mean well. So yeah, but she talked to Vince, and then we started rocking and rolling there. So I mean, but she definitely was like, ‘Hey, we gotta do this!”’ Needless to say, Rose made the right call turning their playful back and forth online into an actual storyline that the fans became rooting for.
Otis is currently a member of the heroic stable of the Raw brand of WWE, the Alpha Academy, along with Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa.
