Iga Swiatek’s Coaching Misery Could Cease as Journalist Claims Rafael Nadal’s Ex-Coach Might Be the One to Mend It All
What’s Your Perspective On
Will Iga Swiatek Thrive Under Carlos Moya’s Guidance, Or Is She Better Off With A New Coach?
Rafael Nadal’s retirement has stunned the tennis world! However, after overcoming the initial shock, his fans and peers are sending their best wishes to him, including Iga Swiatek who shared her special tribute for her “biggest inspiration” and idol in tennis on social media. Per the Pole, Nadal’s inspiring journey helped her stay motivated and push through boundaries! But will his retirement prove to be a blessing in disguise for the Pole who parted ways with her former coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, a few days ago? Well, the journalist, Nacho Albarran, revealed how Swiatek’s coaching conundrum can finally end now!
With a strong start to the 2024 season, Swiatek, with her remarkable victories in the Qatar Open and Indian Wells followed by three consecutive clay-court triumphs, won fans’ hearts! But following an Olympic defeat (after securing a bronze medal), it seemed her scintillating form reached a halt. Not only did she withdraw from several tournaments, but also ended her ties of three years with coach, Wiktorowski. Now, the Pole who climbed the World No. 1 spot, and earned 19 singles titles, including her four grand slams, under Wiktorowski’s guidance, is looking for a “foreign coach.”
It seems that the 23-year-old player who potentially had a complex dynamic with her ex-coach does not need to worry! Think about this. With Nadal’s retirement in November, his coach (the former World No. 1 player), Carlos Moya, will be available for coaching from the next season. So will Moya, who worked with Nadal since 2016, join Swiatek’s team? Per the Spanish “Asa’s” journalist, Albarran (conversation with sport.interia.pl), “Carlos Moya would be a good trainer for Christmas. Moya played very well..knows this surface very well and knows a lot about tennis.”

Further adding, Albarran said, “He helped Nadal even improve the service and play more directly, without long building any exchange, which could be good for Iga. In theory, Moya would be able to give her tennis aggressiveness, diversify the style with cut backhands, drop shots, and approaching the net.” There has been no confirmation on the matter however and as far as Swiatek is concerned, she now trains with Tomasz Moczek and Dawid Celt.
Besides, the 20 singles title winner, Moya, who won the French Open title in 1998 and propelled the Davis Cup’s Spain team to victory in 2004, can bring a new change in Swiatek’s gameplay. It would certainly be fruitful for Swiatek, who admitted to learning from her idol’s gameplay as a kid on TV and has always been vocal about how she appreciates Nadal’s forehand strokes and how she wants to learn more from it. Per her, “…His backhand is pretty flat. I think we have many similarities in that case.” Besides her on-court achievements and accolades, Iga Swiatek is a huge admirer of Nadal’s off-court demeanor as well. And she reiterated it once again in her heartfelt tribute to Nadal!
“The sky is the limit for you now,” Iga Swiatek said about Rafael Nadal’s retirement!

Following Rafael Nadal’s announcement of retirement (after performing in the Davis Cup Finals), Iga Swiatek took to her Instagram and posted a video to show her admiration for the Spaniard. Besides sharing his impactful influence on her own tennis career, Swiatek said, “Thank you for being such an amazing person off the court as well because your humility is something that is not (seen) so often when you see other athletes succeeding, you’re the one that always stayed honest to himself and true to himself.”
Furthermore, she said, “Thank you for being a really good person and hope you’re gonna enjoy the other part of your life and hopefully maybe some other career because the sky is the limit for you now.” She concluded her statement by wishing to see Nadal spend some quality time with his friends and family post-retirement.
From siding with Nadal and supporting him during his hip injuries to wishing him a “healthy and happy” life, Swiatek has always been vocal about her admiration for Nadal. Once, Swiatek even confessed that she would like “to be like Rafa” if she reaches more heights in her career. However, now, the question is: Will she be able to utilize this opportunity to end her coaching worries by hiring Nadal’s coach? Well, the answer to that is up in the air.
