The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne published two days ago the reasoning behind the verdict issued in Simona Halep’s doping case, a double Grand Slam champion who escaped a long suspension and recently returned to the world circuit.
In this document, which returned to the public eye very late, considering that the CAS ruling was issued over 7 months ago, it is stated that Simona Halep will be financially compensated by the ITIA, as the world agency was the accusing party in this process, ultimately lost by the Tennis Integrity Authority.
Simona Halep’s suspension has been reduced from 4 years to 9 months, and she will also receive a sum of money now, albeit insignificant for the former world number one:
“The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) is obliged to pay Simona Halep the sum of 20,000 CHF (twenty thousand Swiss francs) as a contribution to her legal costs and other expenses incurred in connection with this arbitration procedure,” it was specified, among other details, in the 58-page document.

Halep recently returned to the circuit, winning her first official match in the victory against Arina Rodionova from Australia, after exactly 777 days, with a 6-4 score in the decisive set, in Hong Kong. She then clearly lost in the second round to Anna Blinkova, but will return to Hong Kong at the end of October for a WTA 250 tournament.
