This year, the eight-time Grand Slam champion competed in the event with his wife Steffi Graf. Speaking ahead of the Pickleball Slam 2, the German was asked about changing from tennis to pickleball, and she responded by saying that she was still trying to “unlearn” tennis. Graf said that while her mind knew what she was doing, her body had no intention to let go of the tennis mindset.
“Goodness, I’m still trying to unlearn (tennis)” . Graf said as quoted by Sports Illustrated. “I have not had an easy time. I want to move around. I want to hit the ball. I don’t want to slow down and be patient, waiting for the right moment to attack. I tend to want to keep my feet moving. That’s what I learned in tennis. My mind knows what I should be doing, but my body is not quite ready to let that tennis mind go.”
While Steffi Graf’s only tennis involvement of any sort came in Cluj, her husband Andre Agassi recently became the captain of Team World in the Laver Cup.
